How does Oasis compare to Minecraft Realms?
Minecraft Realms gives you a single vanilla Minecraft server hosted by Mojang (Microsoft) in the cloud that only players you invite have access to. Oasis allows you to share any game or server you are running on your own computer with players you invite over a direct, secure, encrypted peer-to-peer connection. Oasis also has a voice server built-in.

What is the difference between Oasis and Port Forwarding on my firewall?
Oasis uses Peer To Peer (P2P) technology to connect devices without opening a security hole in your firewall. Port Forwarding will allow anyone who knows your IP Address to connect directly to your computer. Port forwarding is limited to one local machine per port number, whereas Oasis can support any number of machines with the same port number. Plus, Port Forwarding won’t give you voice communications or the ability to swap Minecraft Resource Packs and Saved Games.
So how does it differ from a VPN?
A VPN connects a remote computer to your entire network, which means that in addition to your game of Minecraft, the person connecting to you also has access to any files that anyone on your local network might be sharing, your network printer, your smart thermostat or even your Roomba vacuum cleaner. Oasis lets you pick and choose which of those things you want remote computers to have access to.
I just updated my Oasis software with the built-in updater. Will my friends still be able to connect to me?
Versions of Oasis are usually backwards-compatible, so even if your friend has the full version of Oasis and chooses not to upgrade for some reason it should still work. We strongly recommend that you stay current with updates because we are constantly adding features, improving the user experience and beefing up security. Any of your friends using the free Oasis client will be updated automatically next time they connect to you.
The game I am playing has a LAN Multiplayer mode, but it does not show up in Oasis for me to share it.
We’ve tried to identify all of the popular Multiplayer games, but sometimes we miss one. You can still share it by finding out what port number the game uses and clicking the “add custom” button to manually specify where your game is shared. Please also drop us a line at firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know what game you are playing so we can add it to a future version of Oasis!
